Sundowns Ladies return to league action with clash against Royal AM

Fresh from their CAF Women’s Champions League COSAFA qualifiers campaign, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies are now shifting their focus back to Hollywoodbets Super League action as they prepare to face Royal AM this Saturday.

The Brazilians’ last league match took place on August 26th, where Andisiwe Mgcoyi’s second-half strike secured a 1-0 victory over Copperbelts Ladies at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

With the team set to return to league action after more than a month, Oratile Mokwena expresses her eagerness to resume the pursuit of an unprecedented fourth consecutive league title.

She shares, “I am really happy that we are returning to the Hollywoodbets Super League. As a team, we are ready and have had sufficient rest, especially after the hectic COSAFA tournament we recently participated in. Now, our focus is back on the league and we are determined to maintain our winning momentum. We understand the challenges that come with a break from league matches, but we have been working hard in training to stay in top form.”

Royal AM is the only team that has managed to defeat Banyana Ba Style this season, but Mokwena believes that revenge is not the primary motivating factor for Saturday’s fixture.

She states, “No, we are not going there for revenge, but we are going out there to correct our mistakes and ensure that we collect the maximum points. Our preparations for the game have been very good. We expect them to come at us because they likely believe they can beat us again. So, it is going to be a very tough game. We are fully aware of the challenge ahead, but we are confident in our abilities and the hard work we have put in during training,” emphasizes the midfielder.

Newly signed Malebogo Shawe also believes that the team has been working diligently in training ahead of this highly anticipated clash.

She shares her excitement, saying, “We are very happy to return to the pitch. They are a team that will be looking to complete a double over us and we are determined to prevent that from happening. The preparations are clearly indicating that we are ready for this one and our expectation is to win the game and bring three points home. We respect our opponents, but we have confidence in our abilities and the hard work we have put into training. It is going to be a challenging game, but we are prepared for it, and we believe in our ability to come out on top.”

Sundowns Ladies are currently in second place in the Hollywoodbets Super League with 50 points, featuring 16 wins and two draws after 19 games. UWC, on the other hand, is at the top with 60 points, having played three more games.

Regarding the goal-scoring charts for Sundowns Ladies, Melinda Kgadiete and Boitumelo Rabale both lead with 12 goals. Andisiwe Mgcoyi has scored 7 goals, while Lelona Daweti and Chuene Morifi have each netted five goals.

The match between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and Royal AM is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 30th, at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg. The kick-off is set for 15h00.

Lets go ladies, this time around it is not easy we are behind by 10 points albeit with 3 games in game. UWC is giving us a run for our money. However, we believe in our team and know that you will do your level best to defend our trophy.
