Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies continued their perfect start to the 2025 Hollywoodbets Super League season with a confident 2-0 victory over newly promoted Ezemvelo Women’s FC at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Goals from Nonhlanhla Mthandi and Thato Letsoso handed Banyana Ba Style their fourth consecutive win, keeping them firmly atop the early-season standings.
Mthandi opened the scoring in the 13th minute after calmly slotting past the Ezemvelo goalkeeper to give the home side the lead. The pressure continued, and it was Letsoso who doubled the advantage in the 27th minute with a composed finish after a swift attacking move.
Ezemvelo, the 2024 Sasol League National Champions, showed glimpses of promise and energy but struggled to penetrate Sundowns’ organized defense, which remained rock-solid throughout the game. The visitors found it tough against a well-drilled and experienced side that has yet to concede a goal this season.
Speaking after the match, Sundowns midfielder Kholosa Biyana commended the team’s discipline and consistency:
“We had a solid performance today — two goals, three points, and another clean sheet. The consistency we are showing as a team is something to be proud of. We could have converted more of our chances, but overall, we are happy with the result, especially against a spirited newly promoted side. Scoring early definitely helped us settle into the game. Credit to the team for sticking to the plan and staying focused throughout. We train hard every week and approach every match with respect, no matter who we are playing.”
Nthabiseng Majiya reflected on the team’s solid performance and the importance of securing all three points:
“It was a wonderful game against our opponents — they gave us a good challenge, but we stayed composed and stuck to our structure. A win is a win and we are happy to walk away with all three points. Every game helps us grow stronger as a team, and we will keep pushing to maintain this momentum throughout the season.”
Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will now shift their focus to their upcoming away clash against Copper Belts on Saturday, 26 April 2025, at Baroka Global Village, with kickoff set for 15:00.
