Sundowns Ladies to face Coal City Wizards in crunch midweek battle

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will be aiming to make it seven straight wins in the Hollywoodbets Super League as they prepare to face Coal City Wizards at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday.

The Brazilians registered a solid 2-0 victory over JVW FC at Wits Main Stadium on Sunday to stretch their lead on top of the Hollywoodbets Super League table.

In the aftermath of the clash against the Blue Diamonds, Nonhlanhla Mthandi said, “I was very happy with the team’s performance on Sunday because we played as a unit and showed clinical finishing when it mattered. We played against a side that was keen to halt our momentum, thus, we had to fight for every ball. In the end, we secured a perfect win because we got our goals and kept a clean sheet in the process.”

Chuene Morifi who also found the back of the net, her sixth goal of the season hailed the team’s bravery.

“We are excited with the way we displayed our courage against JVW FC because they are a very formidable side thanks to the experienced players in their squad. The game was far from easy because they approached the game with the mindset of outsmarting us at our style. Thankfully, we fought gallantly across the pitch and we got the maximum points against one of the title hopefuls,” Morifi stated.

Up next for Sundowns Ladies is a clash against Coal City Wizards who were trounced 5-2 at home by TUT FC over the weekend. The Wizards are currently placed 13th on the log with 5 wins in 21 games. Last season, The Brazilians registered a 5-0 away victory and a 2-0 home win over their opponents.

“We missed a couple of good chances against JVW FC and we cannot wait to make amends on Wednesday. Our minds are set on winning the trophy and we have to double our efforts in the next few games to make our dreams become a reality.” Chuene concluded.
