A match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Amazulu FC will headline Wednesday night’s league action when the Brazilians welcome the KwaZulu-Natal side at Loftus Versfeld.
The focus has switched back to the league, for Masandawana who come from a cup loss over the weekend. As they enter a new week, defender, Aubrey Modiba said his side is starting the week on a clean slate and will take the positives from their last encounter, as they work towards Wednesday’s match.
“We have taken positives from our last game as we march onwards to our next game in the Betway Premiership. At Mamelodi Sundowns we try very hard not to lose consecutive games, so we will work towards ensuring that we bounce back.”
Only a place separates Sundowns and Amazulu, with the hosts third and their counterparts fourth on the log. Past meetings between the two sides have proven to be entertaining and according to Modiba, it won’t be any different on Wednesday.
“We know Amazulu are a good team, a tough team too but so are we. They are well rested, which is not an excuse. They have dangerous players that are speedy. I, however, believe our coaches are going to put up a team that is going to do well on the day and hopefully we get the maximum points. We are expecting a pound-for-pound game. It’s going to be an exciting game to watch,” the defender said.
Bafana Ba Style have masterminded another incredible run of form, breaking their own record as they extended their unbeaten streak in the league to 31 matches. While Usuthu will provide another test for the Pretoria-based side, this meeting provides Downs with an opportunity to continue with that streak. Modiba backed his team to not only extend the unbeaten run but to also walk away with all points on offer in front of the Yellow Nation.
“I think it is important to continue winning and do well at home. We are looking to collect as many points at home so we can stand a better chance to do well in the league. It’s another game at home where we can perform in front of our supporters who play a big role and always come out in numbers, especially when we are at Loftus. Our performances are always better when they are there. We won our last league game against Marumo Gallants because they were rallying behind us. Hopefully, we can match that, going to the next game.”
