Sundowns Sign Mahlambi

Mamelodi Sundowns strengthened the attack with the acquisition of Phakamani Mahlambi from Egyptian giants Al-Ahly.

The highly-rated Bafana Bafana forward signed a five-year deal with the Brazilians. He arrived in Johannesburg on Friday morning and was registered by Sundowns before the transfer window closed at midnight.

Mahlambi became the first South African to play in the Egyptian league when he signed with the Confederation of African Football’s club of the century last year. He struggled to find his touch in Egypt and will look to return to the dizzying heights he reached to be named Absa Premiership Young Player of the Season in the 2016/17 campaign.

The Brazilians’ coach Pitso Moimane is a big admirer of the speedy forward from Louwsburg, in northern KwaZulu-Natal.

Mahlambi will re-unite with a number of familiar faces in Chloorkop, including his former captain Sibusiso Vilakazi. The 20-year-old adds the exuberance of youth in the Brazilians’ attack as the former African champions are on a rebuilding phase with the aim of retaining their Absa Premiership title and conquer the continent once again. With age on his side, Mahlambi will play a key role in the rebuilding process and the future of Bafana Ba Style.
