Mamelodi Sundowns’ CAF Champions League dreams are edging closer and closer but first, they will need to emerge victorious in what is anticipated to be a titanic tussle against Morrocan side, AS FAR on Sunday night at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.
A 1-0 advantage in the first leg at home, courtesy of Aubrey Modiba’s long range strike, sees Bafana Ba Style going into the second leg of the CAFCL final with an upper hand. Speaking to captain Themba Zwane ahead of the game, the midfield maestro expressed his satisfaction on the mood and the positive attitude in camp.
“We have been preparing well for the game. We have also had time to analyse our opponents and we know what to expect from them.”
“The mood in the camp is super great. Everyone is excited and geared up for the match. My favourite part is seeing the tight brotherhood between the players. We have been pushing each other to do well. We are trying keep the mood positive as much as we can,” the captain continued.
Zwane – who was part the group that won it in 2016 – said they have been encouraging the younger players ahead of this fixture. He further made a bold statement, lauding his teammates by saying they’ll be remembered for decades to come.
“We also try to remind the younger ones how important this moment is. We are pushing each other to do our best and make history. I think this group will be remembered for years to come.”
The captain concluded by showing gratitude to the supporters and urging them to continue supporting the team as they take a leap of faith on Sunday, with the hopes to return to South Africa with a second star.
“We urge the supporters to keep supporting us wherever they are. We appreciate the love they keep showing us and we can’t wait to make them proud.”
Mamelodi Sundown will do clash against AS FAR in the second leg of the CAFCL final on Sunday night. They fixture is set to take place at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium. Kick-off has been scheduled for 21H00, live on SuperSport TV and SABC Sports.

I think the coach underestimated the heavy schedule the team is involved in, and I wonder what would’ve happened had management listened to him and trimmed the squad to 26 players as he’d recommended. I’m still hoping Al Ahly will fetch him and rescue us from him. What a game Ndamane had, Tebza Mokoena and Lunga as well, despite the penalty he conceded.
