Bafana Ba Style are a week away from kickstarting the 2021/22 football season and attacker Sibusiso Vilakazi is eager to continue with the Premier Soccer League dominance in the new campaign. With an intense encounter scheduled against Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs, to open the season, Vilakazi believes that resting well and preparing effectively will determine the tone of their championship defence as well as their quest for cup success:
“With our hectic back-to-back schedule, it’s important to rest when given time because the next day your body needs to be ready and charged again to deliver inside the field.” explained the Maestro.
‘Vila’, who has become a household name within the Yellow Nation, played only eight matches in last season’s campaign of the DStv Premiership due to a career-threatening injury. However the dangerous attacker has returned to fitness and is looking forward to the new season as well as the prospect of playing in front of fans.
“I’m looking forward to having them [fans] back. We really miss connecting with them in the stadium, the singing, the cheering when we play. We play for them and we will continue carrying the Yellow Nation flag high up.” said Vila.
Masandawana have bolstered the depth of the team by adding a number of new names to the star-studded squad to prepare for the title defence this season. Vila – who has earned his stripes as one of the senior members of the team – shared some words of inspiration for those who recently joined the champion side.
“They are coming to a team that is always striving to achieve excellence, so it’s important for them to stay focused at all times.”
He continued and said “They have to add their quality to help the Yellow Nation continue [with] our dominance in our league and our quest to win the Champions League. [Therefore] it is important that they click immediately with the energy of everyone. My advice would be to always listen and learn, have respect, always focus, be disciplined, and use the opportunity when it’s given to you.”
Mamelodi Sundowns come face to face with Kaizer Chiefs in the MTN 8 quarter finals next week Sunday, 15 August at Lucas Moripe Stadium. The game will be live on SuperSport and SABC, kick off is at 15h00.
