Three days after delivering a seven-goal fiesta against Tsunami Queens, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies travel to Polokwane to face First Touch Ladies at the Seshego Stadium in the latest round of this season’s Hollywoodbets Super League.
Thus far, the mesmeric Brazilians have been ruthless conquerors with an impressive 16 wins and a single draw after 17 games played. By virtue of some imposing performances and clinical finishing, Banyana Ba Style has set the standards all season with a whopping 63 goals posted which is an average of over three goals a game. It has not only been about the strength and diversity of their attacking riches though, as the table-topping Brazilians are also holders of the best defensive record in the league, having conceded just eight goals this season. Despite donning the cloak of invincibility, Downs’ head coach Jerry Tshabalala is not undermining today’s opponents.
“We know that they are looking forward to this match and they will be trying to break our unbeaten record, but that is not going to happen. We are very ready for this one. I have told my team that we are going for all three points. We approach each game looking to extend the points gap between ourselves and the chasing pack. We want this win more than any other game that we have ever played.”
First Touch Ladies are currently placed fifth on the Women’s league log and have lost just twice this season. Despite the threat they pose, Coach Tshabalala is optimistic about his team’s chances.
“The encounter will be a very tough one because they are a tricky opponent. They are going to be playing at home which means it is not going to be an easy fixture for us. These are the games we train for and we need to apply ourselves if we are to break down this well-oiled team. I believe we have a capable team that will be ready to deliver the goods. The players from the national team are back into our fold and that gives us a massive boost. We have a fully fit squad and we have nothing to worry about. We hope to always represent the brand positively like we always do. We are ready for the challenge.”
Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies clash against First Touch Ladies on Saturday, 16 October at Seshego Stadium and the kick-off time is at 15h00.
