We are here to play against the best teams we can play against and test ourselves – Michael Loftman

Mamelodi Sundowns emerged victorious with a mesmerizing 1-0 victory against Dutch giants, Go Ahead Eagles in their preseason encounter on Sunday afternoon. The Brazilians found the back of the net through midfielder Sammy Seabi with a sensational match-winning goal. The Go Ahead Eagles’ tenacity presented a stern test for the Sundowns, with both sides engaging in a mesmerizing midfield battle

In a post match interview with the media team, Coach Michael Loftman was bursting with pride as he commended the team’s cohesive performance, praising their resilience and unyielding spirit. He emphasized that the preseason victory against a top European club like Go Ahead Eagles would be a good measure of the team’s standard heading into the upcoming season.

“A really good fixture against Go Ahead Eagles, very competitive and very physical and tactically very disciplined from both teams [that’s what makes it] a really competitive fixture for our preseason. Both teams were pressing from the top, both teams were really aggressive with the ball trying to build up and dominate the pitch, [it was] a really competitive game with two teams playing a similar style of football and a really good competitive game for the right time in preseason.”

“We’ve had really positive outcomes from the individuals and the team, regardless of the players that stepped onto the  pitch. It’s really positive to see that across the squad we’ve got some good performance for us this season. For this fixture we did an analysis on the team on arrival to Holland, we were already prepared in terms of our ideas for the game. It was a very tough fixture, but that’s why we are here, to play against the best teams we can play against and test ourselves and the individual players to see the level we are at.”

Bafana Ba Style are known for their eye-catching performances and relentless pursuit of excellence. The 2022/23 campaign was remarkable in showcasing young talents at Chloorkop, taking their commitment to a whole new level by putting their faith in the next generation of football stars to be integrated into the senior team. Downs Coach expressed his elation at the team’s outstanding performance and emphasized the significance of giving young players the opportunity to shine on the grand stage of football.

“The Coach has made it clear that when the young players are working hard and showing their abilities it’s important to give them a chance. He is adamant that we make sure to include them when they deserve it. When the players have been working really hard in this camp and the previous one, it’s time for them to get the minutes that they deserve and prove themselves also like the other players in the team.”
