Mamelodi Sundowns got back to business as usual by winning their midweek battle in the DStv Premiership by 1-0 over Chippa United on Wednesday evening. In recent times, Masandawana have been dealing with teams playing with numbers behind the ball and low blocks for the majority of the game, however their determination to defend their title successfully has seen the defending Champions persevere. Neo Maema is one player that has remained consistent in the starting line up for The Brazilians this season, the 26-year-old left footer expressed his desire to see the team succeed on the weekend:
“It will be a different ball game playing against them [because] they are also coming from wins. They are actually quite motivated to play against us and everybody wants to beat the defending champions, it’s going to be a difficult match, but we are a big club, we are professionals and we know what is expected from us.” Said Maema.
“We are motivated and we did fairly well [in our previous game] and we can only be encouraged to do well. We are also playing on home soil so that’s going to be a huge advantage with our supporters behind us, as always[they are] that 12th person that we need to get that extra enthusiasm and get into the game. It’s very important for us to stay together as a team and get as many points as possible.”
Sundowns are now placed at the top of the log standings in the domestic league, 9 places ahead of the visitors from KwaZulu-Natal. Billy got to enjoy and experience the presence of the Yellow Nation after COVID-19 restrictions were banned at sport gatherings and encouraged the supporters to show up to Saturday night’s blockbuster at TUKS Stadium.
“I just want to encourage you all to come to the game on Saturday, to relive the moments. It’s always good to have you guys at the stadium, please let’s come [together] and make memories and please support the team, because without you guys we are nothing. We would like to really work hard for you guys.”
