Mamelodi Sundowns delivered an unforgettable performance in their third international preseason match in the Netherlands when they beat Sparta Rotterdam 4-1 on Tuesday afternoon. The South African Champions showed a dazzling display of skill and determination as the stage was set for an electrifying clash between the two football giants.
In a thrilling goal-scoring spree, Bafana Ba Style delivered a performance that will be remembered with Peter Shalulile scoring a brace and new signings Lucas Ribeiro Costa and Thapelo Maseko scoring a goal apiece. Downs goalkeeper Coach Wendell Robinson emphasized the significance of the preseason victory, stating that the continuous pressure that they applied on their opponent yielded the positive results.
“It was exactly what Coach Rulani [Mokwena] said even before the game. He said we will start quickly and with a quick start you have to score the goals because if you don’t score the goals these guys will have a way of coming back into the game. We started very quickly, we actually missed two or three opportunities, but we continued to apply pressure and we got the first goal on a high press and then that kind of calmed us down and we controlled the game from there on.”
Masandawana drew their first preseason encounter when they locked horns with KAA Gent in Belgium. A narrow victory followed for The Brazilians in their second European encounter against Go Ahead Eagles where they kept a clean sheet. Coach Robinson emphasized the significance of the preseason triumph, mentioning that the team is working tirelessly to correct the errors they made in the previous season.
“Last season maybe we didn’t score enough goals and we also conceded a lot of goals out of mistakes so that’s what we are trying to improve. We are trying to improve our goal scoring rate and also to eliminate the mistakes. We’ve scored seven goals, in the first game we conceded two goals from the mistakes but it’s good to see the application of the boys now trying to eradicate and erase the mistakes in the game. The key takeaway for me is this thing we worked on, we were able to use it in the game and executed well.”
Sundowns will get back into action in their last match on Friday, 28 July against NAC Breda.
This costa guy, I like him already
How do you eliminate mistakes at the back when you still selecting Mvala and Modiba in your back line?
By showing them their own mistakes and help them to correct those mistakes
Those two players are very important to the team. Whether we like them or not. They have helped us win games. There many games that we won without conceding.
