The Mamelodi Sundowns Diski Team will continue their hunt for glory when they host the Cape Town Spurs on Saturday morning at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. Downs, who have now moved back to the summit of the table, are coming from the back of a victory away from home and will be looking to bag all points on offer by stunning the Urban Warriors.
Coach Themba commented on the readiness of his outfit. He said the team is confident, especially coming from a victory in the past weekend.
“The team is in the right space. It’s always good to go away and pick up points and that’s the mentality that the team is starting to have. It doesn’t matter where we play now, we have to play for a positive result. I’m happy with the performance from the previous game and whenever we play well, we give ourselves a chance to win football matches,” he said.
In the first round of the season, spoils were shared in a four-goal encounter between the two sides. According to the Diski Team tactician, the team was still trying to find its rhythm then. Heading to this game, he admitted that Spurs will be a difficult opponent, especially coming from a massive victory at the weekend, but he is confident in his men to win this to extend their lead on top.
“It was still early in the season and we played against a very good team. The last game that we played against them showed that our team has the character to come back because we found ourselves 2-0 down at halftime and we managed to get a draw, even though we felt disappointed because we felt we could have had all those three points. We have to respect the opponent and we know it’s going to be a very difficult game. Cape Town Spurs is a good team and we are well aware of that. We have watched their last few games and we have seen that they are a very good team, so we have to be at our best,” he stated.
Coach Themba continued and said that topping the log puts pressure on them. The Urban Warriors will come confident and in order to win this game, his charges will need to match their opponent’s energy and give their outmost best.
“That’s the pressure you have when you are on top of the log, you always have a target on your back and everyone wants to be the one to say they beat the team that’s on top. Ours is to just make sure that our preparation goes well for the match,” he said.
“We have watched their game against Orlando Pirates and we can see what they are trying to do. They have got a lot of physicality and are very good on set pieces and transitions, so we have to make sure that we at our best. The players know that anything below our level best won’t be good enough for the match on Saturday. We have to be very careful and make sure that we do our level best to get the three points,” he continued.
The Mamelodi Sundowns Diski Team will host the Cape Town Spurs Reserves on Saturday morning at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. Kick off has been scheduled for 10H00.
