Pitso Mosimane says he is happy Mamelodi Sundowns fans again got to see what striker Mauricio Affonso will offer the team now that he is fit again.
The Uruguayan striker came off the bench in our 5-0 win over AmaZulu in the Telkom Knockout on Sunday and added to the goal spree.
It was Affonso’s debut in a domestic competition after he also managed a goal in his first ever game for Sundowns when we beat Cote d’Or in the record setting CAF Champions League match at the Lucas Moripe Stadium last month.
“He is a number nine as I said before. He scored the same goal in the Champions League, but that one was from a corner kick. He is powerful and his strength is in the air,” the coach said about Affonso after the game.
Mosimane added that the forward was brought in to assist with matches against our rivals on the continent and hopes he adjust as well as his countryman Gaston Sirino.
“We brought him in to help with Champions League where we struggle for height, like when we play Wydad Casablanca and USM Alger where the big boys are coming. I haven’t checked the Angolans yet. But when we play away we need someone to play like that, and he is also good on his feet. What you see is one of his strengths,” said the coach.
