Andisiwe Mgcoyi and Boitumelo Rabale speak ahead of the TS Galaxy Queens fixture

Fresh off their 4-0 victory over Royal AM in their season opener, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies are set to continue their impressive start in the new Hollywoodbets Super League season with an away clash against TS Galaxy Queens.

Reflecting on the team’s stellar performance, Mgcoyi expressed confidence that the unity and determination showcased in the first game will significantly contribute to the team’s title defence.

“We were all determined to start the season on the front foot, considering the level of preparations we put in during the preseason. The result excited me and collectively, we are eager to continue our great start and build upon the energy generated from our first game. I am also happy with the instant impact of the new signings and overall, we are looking forward to another exciting game on Saturday,” said the veteran striker.

Andisiwe, having found the back of the net against the Mpumalanga-based side twice last season, scoring in the 1-1 draw in the away tie and the 1-0 home win, is hopeful that this trend continues in the upcoming fixture.

“I know they will be determined to stop me because I am familiar with the players of several big teams in the league, based on my experience with the national team. Whenever I play against these teams, I feel they always shift their focus to me and I am happy to take my chances. Also, as a striker, scoring in big games breeds confidence and I hope to continue my scoring run against them,” Mgcoyi added.

The Rockets finished fourth last season and have dominantly begun this season. In their opening game, they secured an away victory over JVW Ladies, winning 2-0 thanks to goals from Mamello Makhabane and Busisiwe Ndimeni.

Boitumelo Rabale, the reigning Player of the Season, believes that the team is well-prepared to avoid any surprises after dropping two points against their opponents last season.

“Preparations are going well because we are determined not to let our guards down. Just like in the game last week against Royal AM, we are facing another opponent who took points from us last season. We are not taking anything for granted and remain focused on ensuring a strong performance,” Rabale stated.

The Brazilians also triumphed over their opponents, formerly called Vasco da Gama Ladies, dominantly during the 2022 season. Masandawana completed a double with a 2-0 away win and a 4-0 home win with Boitumelo Rabale scoring in both fixtures.

In her concluding remarks, the left-footed attacker says, “We began the season on a very positive note and we know what we are up against. They are a team with good players and they are one of the teams that can compete for the title. We saw how they dominated JVW Ladies in their opening game. We have to approach them with an elite mentality because they have standout individual players, but we play as a team. With the squad we have and the new players we have added, we are confident in our chances against them,” the striker concluded.

The match between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and TS Galaxy Queens is scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 9th, at the UJ Soweto Campus Stadium, with kick-off set for 13h00.
