Having secured a place in the final of the CAF Champions League, Betway Premiership title defenders, Mamelodi Sundowns will now shift their focus back to the domestic league for the remaining games. They are scheduled to host Stellenbosch FC on Wednesday night at Loftus Versfeld.
After playing to a 2-0 (on aggregate) victory this past weekend, Masandawana will head back into the Premiership with confidence and that was backed up by midfielder, Jayden Adams, when he looked ahead to the midweek fixture.
“I think it is a great achievement for us as a team even for me as an individual, to have qualified for the Champions League final. Last year we got there but we didn’t go all the way out. Going into the league, I think for us it’s to just keep going, keep winning and focus on ourselves while taking it one game at a time and we are definitely confident and excited for the game on Wednesday,” he said.
Meanwhile over the weekend, the side from the Winelands came out victorious at home after edging out Sekhukhune United in a 3-1 win. According to Adams, that might have been a confidence booster for Stellies. He further stated that they expect a well-coached side – also searching for a spot in the top eight – that will fight on the field of play.
“I think they are a hard working team. They are well organised and well-coached. I think we are also expecting them to come out guns blazing because they come from a win. So, they are going to come in confident. We know they are going to come at us but we are going be ready for them.”
Adams concluded by lauding the supporters for the support they showed the team over the weekend. He also encouraged them to do the same even in the midweek fixture as they continue to defend the title. He said: “we just want to thank the Yellow Nation for always being the 12th man, especially in the last game. That boosted our confidence and we hope they come out in numbers again on Wednesday to rally behind us.”
Mamelodi Sundowns will do host Stellenbosch FC on Wednesday night at Loftus Versfeld. Kick-off has been set for 19H30, live on SuperSport TV.
I’ve said it many many times about Williams and Kekana,they always play with the ball a the back,these two are playing for the own stats that that made more touches than other players and when you check 95% of their passes are between themselves.If coach is not firm on them we are going to end the season trophy less for the first time in ten years because of them.This is exactly the reason why Kekana is dropped from Bafana because most of his passes are to the keeper.They did the same against Durban City,we scored early and Williams started with his nonsense.We lost champions league last season because of the same thing,after we scored one goal williams started to play at the back even when the coach was telling players to go for another forward.Management must protect our coach from these bullies of players,i don’t think the coach likes how williams is doing things.To really show that these players are stupid after Stellies scored they started to play forward with urgency,if this is their preferred style of play why did they change play after Stellies equalized?
