Diski Team Conquer the Midweek Edge Against Rise and Shine

Mamelodi Sundowns’ Diski Team picked up all points on offer in the road, when they visited the Polokwane City Reserves and won 3-1.

The visitors had yearned for an early goal and they got it on the 5th minute through defender, Liam Marthinus. Ntokozo Siquba crossed the ball from the right flank and Malibongwe Khoza touched it to deliver it to Marthinus. The defender then redirected it towards goal to put it past the goalkeeper through a glancing header.

Masandawana came close to doubling their advantage when Bennet Mokoena made a cross from a tight angle to but Oarabile Booysen mistimed the ball as he missed it.

A goal finally came again for Masandawana on the 26th minute. Thato Sibiya had intercepted a ball Polokwane City were trying to to clear the ball away from the box. He made a cut-back which was found by Booysen who dived to head it in.

The hosts were quick with the retaliation and they almost found the back of the net but their effort went over the bar slightly. There was not more action in the opening half which led to the visitors heading to the interval with a two-goal advantage.

The second stanza started with an attempt from Mokoena when he fired a low shot from outside the box. His effort, however, missed the target by a few inches.

On the 65th minute, the hosts got a goal through an own goal. While trying to clear the ball away, the ball rolled into the net.

The hosts looked to hold Downs to a draw as they fought to score a goal but despite mistakes, Masandawana managed to block any chances.

In extra time, the young Brazilians extended their lead to kill the game through Mokoena. The striker took a chance outside the boxed and fired a powerful shot that found the top right corner of the net. They will start gearing up for another match on the road against Richards Bay.
