Sundowns Ladies will be aiming to continue their recent impressive streak in the Hollywoodbets Super League as they square off against Thunderbirds Ladies on Sunday.
The Brazilians come into the game in high spirits after securing an impressive 1-0 victory over TUT Ladies Football Club in the highly anticipated Tshwane Derby on Thursday.
That win against their fierce rivals was Banyana Ba Style’s sixth straight league win and during that run, they have scored 31 goals and conceded just once. Regina Mogolola believes the team is excited to be back and continue their push for another league win, having recently conquered the continent for the second time.
“We are happy that we are champions of the continent and everyone on the team is determined to finish the season on a high. We have several outstanding games that we need to tackle in the next few weeks and the win against TUT was simply a starting point that we all need to build upon,” the Limpopo-born defender stated.
The two-time CAF Champions League winners have enjoyed playing against Thunderbirds Ladies in recent times, despite both teams playing out a 1-1 draw earlier this season. Last season, the Brazilians triumphed over their opponents with a commanding 5-1 victory away, followed by a resounding 4-0 win in the reverse meeting on home soil. In the previous season, Banyana Ba Style also secured an impressive 4-0 home triumph and a dominant 5-0 success away.
Despite the overwhelming dominance enjoyed in this fixture, Regina insists they cannot be taken for granted.
“The fact that they secured a draw against us in the first round of the season means that we should not underestimate them. We gained valuable insights during our experience in Ivory Coast, where we treated every team with respect and caution. We intend to carry that mindset into this upcoming match. Regardless of our past performance against any team in previous seasons, we believe that no opponent should ever be taken lightly,” the defender concluded.
Malebogo Shawe believes the team is determined to work even harder to avoid any surprises on Sunday, “We plan to put in more effort than the last game against them and I believe we can win it. All we need is to support each other on the field so that we can achieve our goals. When we work together and give our best, there is no doubt in my mind that we can come out victorious. We are focused, we are ready and we are hungry for success.”
The match between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and Thunderbirds Ladies is scheduled to take place on Sunday, November 26th. The kick-off is set for 15h00.
