One of the longest-serving players at Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, Bongiwe ‘Slender’ Thusi has left the club.
Since joining the club in 2011 from Phomolong Ladies Team, Bongiwe has been a vital member of the Chloorkop-based side, winning several titles during her stay.
Slender was part of the team that clinched the 2013 and 2015 Sasol Women’s National League editions.
The Tembisa-born attacking midfielder also played a pivotal part in the recent streak of Hollywoodbets Super League domination which has seen Sundowns Ladies win the competition three times in a row.
Bongiwe further showed her class during last year’s inaugural edition of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League, slotting the winning penalty as The Brazilians registered a 5-4 penalty shootout victory against Equatorial Guinea’s Malabo Kings in the semi-final.
Sundowns Ladies would go ahead to win the competition to become the first-ever winners of the continent’s premier women’s tournament.
Bidding farewell to an outstanding player who so selflessly showed great determination to the club for more than a decade is not easy. Each silverware won during her time will always be fondly accompanied by the memories made with Bongiwe.
Join us Masandawana as we wish Bongiwe well in the next steps of her footballing career and thank her for the memorable years she spent with the Club.
Slender will always be part of Mamelodi Sundowns, and we are certain that the journey we walked together will forever remain in our hearts.
