Brazilians Return for Club Duty After International Break

This week Mamelodi Sundowns return to club action for the home stretch of the season after the final international break for 2020/21. Nine first team players were in action for their countries during the international break as their nations competed for the final spots in the next edition of the African Cup of Nations.

Themba Zwane, Mothobi Mvala, Lebohang Maboe, Mosa Lebusa, Thapelo Morena, Rivaldo Coetzee and Andile Jali donned their national team colours in the final Group C encounters against Ghana and Sudan. Bafana Bafana played out a 1-1 defeat against the Black Stars at the FNB Stadium before travelling to Sudan where they went down 2-0 to the hosts, subsequently finishing third in group C.

Elsewhere, shot-stopper Denis Onyango’s Cranes of Uganda played out a draw against Group B leaders Burkina Faso with The Brazilians’ keeper keeping a clean sheet. Onyango’s charges had it all to play for in their last qualifier but suffered a 1-0 defeat to Malawi at home.

In-form striker Peter Shalulile continued his deadly form in Namibia’s solitary qualifier against Guinea. The Brave Warriors had one less game to play after their opponents Chad were disqualified from the competition by the governing body. Shalulile was on hand to bag two goals against Guinea as he led his charges to a 2-1 victory.

Masandawana will now regroup ahead of their CAF Champions League clash against Al Hilal where they will be looking to make it five wins from five in the competition.
