The Betway Premiership 2024/25 season is nearing its end, and Mamelodi Sundowns’ dream of lifting their eighth consecutive title is closer. To make that dream come true, they are left with three matches and the first one is at home this weekend against Stellenbosch FC at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.
Masandawana come from the back of a historic 3-0 victory against Chippa United, a victory that not only sees them pick up three points, but also breaks their record of most goals scored in a season, tallying it up to 57 goals. All thanks to Jayden Adams, Iqraam Rayners, and Thapelo Maseko’s goals, as well as a team effort displayed by coach Miguel Cardoso’s men.
Up next, with the quest to continue their string of wins, they are facing a Stellenbosch side in the reverse fixture. Looking ahead to the meeting, Captain Themba Zwane stated he anticipates a difficult encounter.
“I’m honestly expecting a tough game because they were playing in the CAF Confederation Cup, which they did well in, and they are pushing. In the same breath, I can say the same about us. We have been doing well, creating scoring chances and playing good football. So, it’s going to be an exciting game to watch,” he said.
On what kind of football to expect from them and players that they need to deal with from the moment the match kicks off, the skipper said they are expecting a quality team that is hardworking and strong. He said, “I can say Lesiba Nku will give us problems. He is a quality player, but they have a lot of quality players. They are a very hardworking team. You can’t single one out, and as a team, they are collectively strong. Just looking at that, I know the game will be exciting and demanding.
To conclude, the midfield maestro encouraged the Yellow Nation to come out in numbers to support the boys.
