Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies maintained their winning momentum in the Hollywoodbets Super League with an impressive 3–1 victory over Durban Ladies at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The performance was a clear statement of intent as the team builds towards the upcoming COSAFA Women’s Championship.
The match started with an early shock as Durban Ladies found the net in the fourth minute after exploiting a gap in the defence. The goal sparked an immediate response from the Brazilians, who kept their composure and began to dominate possession.
Forward Melinda Kgadiete led the fightback, scoring twice in quick succession in the 26th and 30th minutes. Both goals showcased her sharp positioning and her ability to finish under pressure.
After the break, Banyana Ba Style came out with renewed energy, determined to extend their advantage. In the 54th minute, Noxolo Cesane produced a composed finish to make it 3–1 and effectively put the contest beyond reach. From that point, the visitors controlled the tempo, moved the ball with confidence, and denied their opponents any chance of a comeback.
Reflecting on the match, midfielder Isabella Ludwig was full of pride for the team and pleased with her contribution.
“We did very well today, and our decision–making was excellent from start to finish. We stayed calm even after conceding early, and that shows our maturity as a team. I felt this was one of my best games because I gave everything on the pitch. I worked hard to close down space, win duels, and help in the build-up play. This was a perfect performance for us ahead of COSAFA. It gives us confidence and belief. Everyone in the squad is contributing, we are playing as one unit, and that unity is what will carry us far in the tournament.”
With the win, the Brazilians maintain their grip on top spot with 12 wins and 2 draws from 16 games played. They have scored 40 goals and conceded just 5, underlining their dominance on both ends of the pitch.
Up next for Sundowns Ladies is a clash against UCT on 16 August at Lucas Moripe Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 15:00.
