Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies once again underlined their dominance in South African women’s football at the 2025 Hollywoodbets Super League Awards, with the Club receiving top individual honours that reflected an exceptional campaign.
Defender Karabo Dhlamini was named Defender of the Season, while Head Coach Godfrey Sapula claimed the Coach of the Season award in his first year in charge.
Reacting to being crowned Defender of the Season, Karabo Dhlamini described the recognition as deeply meaningful and motivating.
“This recognition shows that there is something right that I am doing, and people are seeing it. It also tells me that I should continue putting in the work and never become complacent.”
Dhlamini attributed Sundowns Ladies’ defensive strength to constant communication and a strong sense of teamwork across the pitch.
“Communication was very key in our defence because we knew that if we did not concede, we still had a chance to win the game. Teamwork was also important because inside the field we really needed everyone’s effort, not just the defenders.”
Coach Godfrey Sapula, who was recognised as Coach of the Season in his debut campaign, described the award as a humbling moment that reflected the collective effort of the entire Club.
“Winning this award is huge for me and brings a real sense of gratitude. It represents the contributions of everyone who played a big part, and it also shows the level of performance the players delivered throughout the season.”
Reflecting on key moments that defined the season, Sapula pointed to the team’s early dominance as a major turning point. “Winning nine of our first ten games without conceding a goal really set the pace for our season and gave us belief.”
On what the expectations are for the new season, Coach Godfrey says, “We want to unlock the potential of the players and improve their level of performance. Our main goal is to retain our league title, do well in COSAFA, and qualify for the CAF Women’s Champions League.”
The 2025 season statistics further highlight the scale of Sundowns Ladies’ dominance, as the team recorded 25 wins, scored 83 goals, and conceded just 7, finishing with both the best attack and best defence in the league. These achievements reinforce why Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies continue to set the benchmark for excellence in women’s football.
