Coach Jerry Tshabalala backs his troops to continue their fine form against City Lads Ladies

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will be aiming to continue their rich vein of form when they travel to the Eastern Cape to square off against City Lads Ladies on Saturday at the Westbourne Oval Stadium.

Since the COSAFA final disappointment, The Brazilians have been in beast mode despite playing almost twice every week. A 7-1 win over Golden Ladies was followed by a 1-0 victory over Durban Ladies. In midweek, a 7-0 win was recorded against Tsunami Queens, further highlighting the team’s hunger for success.

As the continental champions prepare to face City Lads Ladies, Coach Jerry ‘Kappa’ Tshabalala believes his team is well equipped to handle the hectic schedule.

“It’s been an interesting last few weeks for us because we have had to play several games in such a short period. The games are coming thick and fast, but we have found a way to manage the team and keep everyone fresh and hungry. We have lost a few players to injury and our squad depth has been tested in the past few weeks. Nevertheless, being a champion comes at a cost and we are gearing up for our next battle,” Kappa stated.

Both teams clashed earlier this season with Sundowns Ladies smashing eight past their opponents. Braces from Boitumelo Rabale and Andisiwe Mgcoyi were complemented with strikes from Nonhlanhla Mthandi, Rhoda Mulaudzi, Miche Minnies, and Karabo Dlamini.

Despite that dominant showing, Regina Mogolola is eyeing a tougher battle in the reverse fixture.

“The league has been very unpredictable as we have seen several shocking results since the season began. Our aim is to go for three points against anyone we play against. Although we dominated our first clash, we are not resting on our laurels. The last thing we need is to get complacent, because football can be unkind to anyone who relies on past results,” Mogolola asserted.

Sundowns Ladies are currently joint-top of the Hollywoodbets Super League standings with 39 points thanks to 13 wins after 14 games played. The Brazilians have scored a league-high 64 goals and have conceded a joint-league best of nine goals.
