Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies have enjoyed a riveting start to the new Hollywoodbets Super League season. The Brazilians have begun the campaign fantastically with goal-scoring blitzes and defensive masterclasses on several occasions.
From scoring 11 goals against Golden Ladies to scoring 8 against City Lads Ladies, Banyana Ba Style has been in beast mode with just six games played. Aside from the shock defeat to the University of the Western Cape (UWC) during the fifth round of games, the Chloorkop-based side has begun the season in a fast and furious fashion.
The likes of Andisiwe Mgcoyi and Rhoda Mulaudzi have relied on their experience thus far and their performance has been commanding to say the least. While players such as Boitumelo Rabale and new-signing Miche Minnies have constantly grabbed the headlines thanks to their goal-scoring prowess and attack-minded contributions, the performance of Karabo Dhlamini should not be ignored.
In the past two years, Dhlamini featured for Oakland University and Golden Grizzlies in the United States of America. Her return to the Sundowns set-up has been described as a great boost for the team according to Coach Jerry ‘Kappa’ Tshabalala.
“We have been pleased thus far with the return of Karabo Dhlamini to the side. We have integrated her slowly into the philosophy of the team and we are reaping the dividends already. She is an extremely versatile player who can play anywhere down the spine; as a center-back, a central midfielder, or even as a center forward. Her vast international experience, athletic and technical ability will come in handy as we look to defend our titles during the season,” Kappa stated.
Dhlamini opened her goal account for the season when she scored in the 8-0 hammering of City Lads Ladies. She also delivered an impressive performance in the Tshwane Derby by scoring once in the 5-1 over TUT Ladies Football Club. The versatile midfielder is hoping to continue her form against Thunderbirds Ladies in the seventh round of the Hollywoodbets Super League.
“Since I re-joined the team, I have gained the support of my teammates and the coaching staff. We have confidently begun the season and we plan to maintain our dominance both domestically and continentally. I am happy with the goals that I have scored so far, but seeing the team excel, excites me the most,” Dhlamini stated.
Last season, Sundowns Ladies dominated this fixture with relative ease. The Brazilians posted a 4-0 win over their opponents at home and registered a comprehensive 5-0 win on away soil.
Sundowns Ladies have accumulated 15 points from six games and have scored a league-high 32 goals while conceding just 4 goals.
The fixture between Mamelodi Sundowns and Thunderbirds Ladies will take place on Saturday, 28 May 2022, at the Gelvandale Stadium. The kick-off time for the fixture is 15h00.
