Coach Manqoba Mngqithi reflects on AmaZulu FC Draw

Mamelodi Sundowns continued with their unbeaten run as they stretched it to twenty-one games after playing a goalless draw with AmaZulu at the Kings Park Stadium in Durban. With nine games left in the DStv Premiership the action is coming thick and fast and Masandawana are still on top of the standings with a six-point gap to the second-placed team who are Golden Arrows. The Brazilians have played two games less and will be hoping to collect all the maximum points and stretch the lead at the top.

“We knew they might try to counter-press and press on top at times and we made a lot of mistakes in that space when we were building from the back. The condition of the pitch also was not helpful because we struggled and we nearly made some mistakes with Rushine trying to run with the ball and also Lebohang but as soon as we managed to understand the conditions of the pitch and started to respect the fact that we should receive and pass the ball and not run with it, that is when we looked like we can get something. It was one of those matches to see Sundowns in the first 45 not having a shot at goal or on target. It was a strange moment but truth be told we were playing against a strong team that wanted to give us a tough time.”, said Coach Manqoba Mngqithi.

The game was played at a high tempo with a strong tactical element which provided entertainment and delivered all the hype without a goal being scored. Bafana Ba style has drawn eight times this season.

“One must say as Sundowns it was important for us to try and win this match, we were hoping our second half will help us, we got a very good chance which I think was one of the biggest chances of the match and we did not take it. Credit must be given to Benni, he has done a lot of work with this team, they are working very hard and are running non-stop. The fact that we did not lose was good for us. If you do not win a match of this nature, a six-pointer, rather don’t lose but one is disappointed we did not get the maximum points” concluded Coach Manqoba Mngqithi.

Next up in the DStv Premiership for Masandawana is Kaizer Chiefs on Sunday the 25th of April.

Words of advise, refresh the team, play for now and the future by mixing youth together with experience because our obsession with old players will destroy our beloved team like Liverpool and Barcelona and recently Barcelona is using young players hence they are doing well now, even Man City went through the same thing last season, have on the bench reserves who will propel the team forward not those who will take the tempo of the game down, stop doing players who are not performing favors and don’t sign players for the sake of signing, players like Mvala are good but not good to play Downs brand of football, even yesterday we were nearly punished because he couldn’t trap the ball and he did that in a friendly against Zambia and Bafana got punished. It seems as if we don’t do performance review of each and every player after the game because good players stay in the stands while undeserving players sit on the bench.

I think now teams are satisfied 2 get a draw against us as long as they do not lose against Sundowns. But if th e 3 wise men don’t lose against Arrows,Pirates,Supersport and Swallow half of th e job will b completed. We just need to crown ourselves,th e league is 4 only us 2 lose 6 points ahead and 2 games in hand,We must just guard against complacency and not take games 4 granted. There is Covid19 playing 2 our favour in terms of crowd absence especially going North namely Morrocco,Egypt or Tunisia.About youngsters being moulded together with th e experienced players I believe it’s not that bad if we put Lebusa,De Rucker,Mkhulise&consider Lukhubeni doing well at TTM,consider that these coaches have 2 prove themselves with a silverware of which th e marathon is still on.On my side coaches u r still doing very well,&u r still yet to cry about th e parking of the bus, which means u r very professional if u consider a lot of penalty calls not going our way still u have not lamented the referees about those mistakes.U r humans after all u r subjected 2 make mistakes that r forgiven.I miss these 2 individuals Jali&Romeo who don’t just release the ball nje but 4 good purposes.I have a firm belief that we r very thin upfront what if Shalulile get injured?Consider some reinforcement there.Kaboyelo We remain.

Big problem play for higher ball position than goal more than attacking Lebusa &De Ruke are to slow keep pass each other i prefer Nasciment he pass ball forward sometimes hold ball run forward that gape 6 points not. safety can be close easly really miss Jali &Romeo player who had mission to score unlike the other play as exhibition games
