Coach Manqoba Mngqithi shares his thoughts on the Tshwane derby

Mamelodi Sundowns maintained their unbeaten streak in the DStv Premiership in the 2020/21 season as we played out to a 0-0 draw in the Tshwane derby against SuperSport United. The draw against Matsatsantsa put the Brazilians on twenty-five points and have the same points as Swallows with the goal difference of five goals.

Coach Manqoba Mngqithi spoke after the game and said “The game panned out the way we expected, we knew they would come out and play a low block, we played against a well-drilled team, defensively they were good. We did get chances, Mshishi, Gaston and Mvala but we could not take our chances. We played against a team that has scored in all their games and coming out with a clean sheet against them was a plus for us. We did a lot of good things but we were not decisive enough.”

Coach Manqoba Mngqithi also highlighted the importance of having Mmothobi Mvala in the team and said that “Mothobi is a fighter and when you come into a game against SuperSport, Pirates and Jwaneng you need him as those teams are strong on set-pieces. In your choice of midfielders, you need to add someone who will assist in set pieces. He has been scoring goals for us, his passing has improved, he is also a leader in the team. Today he contributed very well, he works very hard and that is an element that he excels in.”

Our next game in the Dstv Premiership is a clash against Bloemfontein Celtic on Tuesday at 17:00

Well, I appreciate the words of the coach with regards to the performance yesterday, but in all honesty, I wasn’t impressed by the performance. The shots from Mvala and Maboe were all wasted, they could have passed the ball to another player or get closer in a better shooting position but with strikes like those, chances were wasted which cost us maximum points. We should have won the game if we had done better. We need to improve in our attack. Defence stood strong which is a plus against a good scoring opponent as said by the coach.

the coaches and all the technical team know what they are doing but I think Mvala should have played no 6 and Maluleka play no 8 but coaches know better . Rivaldo’s absence leaves a huge gap in how Sundowns play . I pray that he can come back soon.

Yes I understand Mvala’s role,bt playing him with Maboe in da midfield does not make our attacking play dangerous cos both of them give away possession cheaply, yes they r hard workers bt if their ball distribution is poor, then they mst sit on da bench and let the likes of Magerman,Mkhulise,Maluleka who r all good passers of da ball

Thank you my Coach for the explanation bt the only thing lacking on Mvala and Maboe is the accurate passing and shooting pls take both of them let them practice those elements, we miss Mkhulise and Keletso and Kapinga keep up the good work 3 Wise man 👆👆👆….Sam
