Coaches Rhoda Mulaudzi and Zanele Nhlapho have expressed their support for the Mamelodi Sundowns Under-16 girls to maintain their impressive run of form this weekend as the fourth round of the Gauteng Women’s Development League (GWDL) takes center stage.
In this latest round of matches, the young girls will be playing two games on Sunday. The first match will be against Highlands Park, who are currently placed second on the log, while the second match will be against JVW FC, who are currently placed fourth.
Coach Rhoda anticipates a challenging and highly competitive encounter against these two teams, as they are both in great form and performing well in the league.
“We are well-prepared for the upcoming clash against Highlands Park, taking inspiration from our previous demonstration of character against another top-four team, Tuks. Moreover, the challenging nature of matches against JVW extends even to the senior level, as they consistently deliver strong performances and exhibit a competitive spirit. Every encounter with them presents a tough test for our players. However, we embrace these opportunities to face formidable opposition as they provide valuable growth and improvement for our team. The irregularity of our fixtures poses a challenge, occasionally disrupting our momentum. Nevertheless, we are committed to staying in shape by engaging in friendly matches against the boys’ team,” Mulaudzi stated.
The Sundowns Under-16 girls have had a flawless start to the GWDL this season. They kicked off the campaign with an outstanding 8-0 victory over Rovers FC on the opening weekend. Following that, they continued their impressive form with a resounding 7-0 triumph against Lora Bokamoso and an 8-1 win over Tornado FC in the second weekend. They maintained their dominant performance with a commanding 5-0 victory against Remember Elite Sports Academy FC and a well-earned 3-1 win against Tuks in the last round of matches.
Despite the impressive results, Zanele Nhlapho finds even greater satisfaction in the learning process for the girls.
“As coaches, we are genuinely delighted with the remarkable form displayed by our girls. We take immense pride in their techniques, solid positioning and growing tactical awareness. It brings us great satisfaction to witness their diligent implementation of the training sessions. Naturally, we are also thrilled with their consistent winning performances. However, as coaches, we recognize the importance of preventing complacency and nurturing a hunger for continuous success. It is our responsibility to guide and motivate them towards reaching new heights and achieving even greater accomplishments,” said Zanele.
The Mamelodi Sundowns Under-16 girls are currently at the top of the GWDL with a maximum of 15 points earned from five games this season. They have scored a whopping 31 goals and have only conceded 2 goals, resulting in an impressive goal difference of +29.
We wish our youngsters all the best this weekend.
