Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will be aiming to continue their blistering form as they face Richmond United on Wednesday in the latest round of the Hollywoodbets Super League.
The Brazilians have enjoyed a superb run of form and have shown no signs of stopping despite playing twice a week.
As a result, Coach Jerry ‘Kappa’ Tshabalala has had to dig deep with his squad by rotating a couple of times and trying out new formations to manage the team.
“It’s been an interesting last few weeks for us as we have had to battle with injuries and fatigue across the squad. There is little turn-around time to prepare for the games and the injuries have plagued our squad. Nevertheless, we are glad that the victories have been coming despite the tight schedules. These are the moments that define champions, and we are privileged to be in such a position,” Kappa stated.
Last season, Sundowns Ladies scored 10 times against Richmond United with a 5-1 victory registered on home soil and a 2-5 win clinched on away territory. Despite the recent dominance in this fixture, Coach Jerry is not getting carried away.
“This is another tricky encounter that we need to be wary of. We saw their capabilities during the preseason preparations where they got the better of us. They are a very energetic side who run a lot with and without the ball. Although we beat them twice last season, they are a different side at the moment as they are younger and quicker. This match will be a demanding one and we are hoping to keep up our impressive run of form,” Coach Jerry concluded.
Sundowns Ladies have now accumulated 42 points thanks to 14 wins after 15 games played. The Brazilians have scored a league-high 67 goals and have conceded nine times, the best defense in the league.
Meanwhile, Richmond United is placed ninth on the log with 26 points thanks to eight wins after 16 games. They have lost six times and drawn twice, scoring 37 goals and conceded 24 times.
Mamelodi Sundowns clash against Richmond United on Wednesday afternoon at the Groenkloof Stadium in Pretoria. The kick-off time for the fixture is 15H00.
