The Mamelodi Sundowns Diski team booked their ticket into the semi-finals of the cup competition with a last-minute goal against Orlando Pirates on Sunday afternoon. The battle between the two teams went on for 90 minutes without any goals scored and as the time kept ticking, it seemed as though Masandawana’s journey had reached the end.
Musawenkosi Mdhluli’s excellent added-time strike settled the tough stream of the competition and brought the Yellow Nation’s dreams of playing in the semi-finals to life: “One should be happy or excited to help the team in crucial matches, it’s not about being on the headlines or stealing the show but making sure that the team progresses and do well.” Said Mdhluli.
He continued to express the exhilaration that emerged as he scored the goal and the match coming to a successful end “I can’t really remember what was going through my head merely because everyone was so excited and happy. You could see from their eyes that they wanted to win the match but I must say it was a very crazy feeling.”
Masandawana have been to the finals of the Diski competition in previous formats on more than one occasion and this is another opportunity to make a statement and win their semi-final: “I would like to think everyone’s extremely happy because it gives everyone another opportunity to showcase their talents, hard work and ability.” said the youngster.
Mdhluli says the boys have taken inspiration from the senior team in this season’s Diski Rewired competition: “The goal is to always try and win every match that we play, I mean we are Mamelodi Sundowns. As you know our first team created a habit and culture for us to have a winning mentality. With everything said and done, I would like to say I am very grateful and delighted that we managed to go through to the next round as a team. I am happy for the boys and the technical team.”
Mamelodi Sundowns will now face Cape Town City in the semi-finals on Saturday.
I watched the game… We were not fluid… Pirates missed a lot of chances. I was glad to see us win… Good luck against Cape Town city
