For Me, Working Hard Is Not A Problem – Promise Mkhuma

Promise Mkhuma has become a breath of fresh air to watch in the second season of his career with the Mamelodi Sundowns Senior team after being promoted from the reserve team in 2019. The 21-year old midfielder has been making waves in the DStv Premiership since making his debut in the bio bubble and is slowly making his mark in the midfield position.

“For a youngster like me coming into the team it has been good, I always put hard work first, for me working hard is not a problem, I just need to stay focused and try to contribute to the team.” said Mkhuma as he reflected on his journey in the first team.

Mkhuma’s position lies in the highly-competitive middle of the pitch where he competes with the likes of Themba Zwane and Lebohang Maboe, who push him to put in the extra work. He says the transition into the playing squad has been made bearable by his seniors at the club: “I believe that we are doing well as a team. My coaches, all the technical staff and the players have been supporting us youngsters to help us do well. They compliment us when we do well at training and they motivate us when we play games and I think with their support and our hard work we’re fine as youngsters.”

Mkhuma has gained a reputation for being one of the lead singers amongst his teammates since his younger years in the club and says that it is an instrument in creating positive morale in the squad: “I’ve been singing since I was with the Academy, I think that singing lifts up the team’s spirit. It’s been a great month for me and the team, we’re looking forward to doing well and finishing up our games on a high note.”

Mkhuma recently featured in the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League game in Egypt against Al Ahly coming on as a substitute for Gift Motupa.
