Diski Team Conclude the 2024/25 Campaign with a 1-1 Draw

The 2024/25 DStv Diski Challenge campaign has come to an end, and the Mamelodi Sundowns Diski Team concluded it with a 1-1 draw against the Lamontville Golden Arrows on Sunday morning at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium.

A goal was almost scored in the opening two minutes of the first stanza by Onele Rulwana. The keeper had gone out of the area, and Rulwana took advantage of that. From range, he fired a shot that went over the keeper, but it went slightly wide.

Another chance came from Sipho Ngqakabana, who made a defence-splitting pass to Rulwana. Rulwana’s attempt at goal, however, sailed over the bar.

After barely going to Downs’ half in the opening stanza, the hosts almost broke the deadlock, but Kamohelo Mareletse made a beautiful clearance. Another sweep to deny Abafana Bes’thende an opener came from Junaid Seedat. The save meant the two sides headed to the interval goalless.

Just as the resumption whistle was blown, a minute into the second half, Rulwana finally found the breakthrough and pulled one back for Bafana Ba Style. Unmarked, he made a good run to the area. It was just him versus the goalkeeper, so with his right foot, he rattled the bottom left corner of the net.

Arrows started looking in hot form and were creating plenty of good chances, but the Downs goalkeeper, Lehlogonolo Mohlabine, made impressive saves. In the 72nd minute, the hosts finally found the back of the net to level matters.

The young Brazilians tried to find a goal to snatch the lead back, but in the end, had to settle for the draw to conclude their season.

How we lined up: Mohlabine, Norawana, Seedat, Mampane, Sibande, Mareletse, Mokoele, Masisi (c), Ngqakabana, Mokoena, Rulwana.

Subs: Shabangu, Nkabinde, Moabelo, Mlondo, Booysen.
