The Mamelodi Sundowns Diski Team will be looking to get the rub of the green and return to winning ways when they meet the Chippa United Reserves on Saturday morning at the Gelvandale Stadium in Gqeberha.
Masandawana come from the back of a loss where they were handed their first defeat of the season by their visitors, Richards Bay FC, at the weekend. Despite the result being a disappointing one, coach Tiro Van Rooyen said he’s happy with the team’s response and their hunger to win the next match.
“The mood has been good. I think Richards Bay was always going to be a tough opponent. They have very good players who have already played in the top-flight. Coming from a loss, it was important to see how they reacted at training, and I think they reacted very well.”
The Chilli Boys, on the other hand, have had a rough start to this campaign, having lost all their matches. They came close to registering their first victory last weekend, but they fell short in a 3-2 loss. Despite their result, coach Tiro said the team is aware of Chippa United’s physical attributes and how strong they can be. He emphasised that his charges will not rest on their laurels as they look for a result that will help them bounce back.
“Just like last week, we are playing against a highly experienced team. Their front three have all started for the first team. So, we will have to be good at the back to contain them, but also play our way, going forward against them,” he said.
“The boys will need to be technically sound. When you play against a team that is as physical as Chippa United, you need to stay away from duals. That means our ball speed and chance creation have to be good. We are confident with the work that we have done this week, and we are hoping for a good result.”
