Mamelodi Sundowns’ Diski Team will be back in the touchline on Saturday afternoon when they visit the Kaizer Chiefs Reserves at the FNB Stadium in Nasrec.
The young Brazilians have been in positive spirits this week following their 2-0 triumph against the TS Galaxy Reserves at the weekend. Coach David Notoane reflected on the victory and touched on how it has impacted their preparations for Saturday’s meeting.
“I think last week’s victory was very important against a very difficult TS Galaxy side. We knew that January and February were going to be a very demanding period for our campaign this season, we were happy to come out with a clean sheet which was one of the things that we have been working hard to improve on. We hope that we continue on this path to make sure that we keep clean sheets. We are also maximising the chances that we create,” he said.
“I also think the boys are excited, we are excited for the game ahead. Our games against Chiefs have always been exciting. Two tactical and technical teams that usually go at each other with a positive spirit and not one where we try to hurt each other. We look forward to another encounter against them,” he continued.
Masandawana last met the Glamour boys in December 2024 when they were on a crest of a wave during their dominance which they have been able to maintain. Four games later, the two sides meet again for the reverse fixture that according to coach David, is always exciting. Despite the excitement of the game, he believes that if his charges play an improved version of the last time they met, they are highly likely to come home with the three points which are important in this phase of the title chase.
“I think this game will be an evenly balanced match, a tight match that is tight with goals and those are exciting games when we play Chiefs. They are always full of goals. If that’s not lots of goals there’s lots of excitement and opportunities created by both teams because we both have talented players. I think it’s a game anyone can take but we know what we have to do considering the aspirations we have to win the league,” he said.
“We are creating a lot of chances against them. Even in the first game, we had no business to draw. The thing about them is they are very resilient when they play against us, even in moments where they are suffering and it seems like the game is far away from them. The biggest thing we have to improve on going into this match is to kill the game when we have the opportunities to do so. If we can do that, we are worthy of three points,” he concluded.
