Mamelodi Sundowns got off to the best possible start in the new year with an impressive 3-0 win over AmaZulu at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.
Downs began the game with a high intensity and it took just five minutes for Sibusiso Vilakazi to net after a clever assist from Hlompho Kekana.
Both goalkeepers were kept busy in their goals with Denis Onyango and Neil Boshoff producing heroic saves.
Downs got their second of the game on the stroke of half time, with Themba Zwane tapping in from close range after Mkhulise forced a save from Boshoff.
Downs began the second half as they ended the first, with Lebohang Maboe and Kekana coming close with chances in the opening minutes.
The early pressure payed off eventually with Downs being awarded a penalty seven minutes into the half after Vilakazi was brought down on the edge of the box. Zwane stepped up and made no mistake from the spot as he bagged his second of the game.
Coach Pitso Mosimane looked to introduce fresh legs as he brought on Keletso Makgalwa and Tiyani Mabunda.
Downs remained in control for the rest of the second half as they looked to manage the game and secure the three points with a strong away victory.
AmaZulu 0-3 Mamelodi Sundowns (5′ Vilakazi, 45′, 54′ Zwane)
Well done boyz. We played much better yesterday, especially in the 2nd half. I was worried about fatigue. We have three important and tough league matches coming up, starting on Tuesday with Bidvest. We also have the Champions League to contend with this month. It’s going to be tough, but it’s doable.
Thank you Dawana, I think Themba Zwane deserve to wear jersey number 12.
Well done downs, I like mukhulisi showings. We having two tough games ahead let’s stay grounded so that the are in for a suprise. Hola Pisto
