Downs’ Diski Team Ready to Face Stellenbosch FC Reserves at Home

Mamelodi Sundowns’ Diski Team will be looking to continue their scintillating run in the DStv Diski Challenge when they take on the Stellenbosch FC Reserves on Saturday afternoon at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Speaking to an enthusiastic coach David Notoane, he said his side has prepared well for the match, following another win last week against TS Galaxy which has boosted the team’s confidence.

So far preparations have been very good after a very tough match against TS Galaxy. We managed to refresh and recover the team, now we are wrapping up our preparations, trying to fix our defense with a little bit of issues we have with giving away goals every single game. So, we look forward to Saturday to continue with the dominance in terms of playing and creating scoring chances and hopefully keep a clean sheet. The boys are working hard, they are focused and hungry. They understand the process that we are on, and we are very happy about that,” he said.

For the young Brazilians, Stellenbosch has been one of the toughest opponents to face in the league, having lost twice and registered a draw in our last three encounters. Coach David has, however, mentioned that in all the encounters, Downs has dominated the fixtures. Having prepared very well and worked on minimizing mistakes at the back, the DDC coach believes his side can emerge victorious and turn the tables around.

One has to be honest and objective in terms of the results vs the performance because in both home and away games last season, we should have won, including the 2-1 loss this season in Stellenbosch. They know that they got away with murder for the chances that we created. Again, it’s down to minimizing the mistakes because they are a team if we make mistakes, they will punish us and it’s something we have emphasized throughout the week. If we don’t make mistakes against this team, we stand a higher chance of winning the game,” the coach said.

Looking at their last game, their opponent gave little but Stellenbosch lost 4-0. Defensively, they have challenges and offensively we are strong. The likes of OneleRulwana, Gomolemo Kekana, and Xavier Jodamus are in good form and are displaying fine performances. So, we will use our attacking prowess to try to cut their suspect defense and hopefully convert the chances that we create and also tighten the back in terms of minimizing the mistakes. I think we are now looking forward to turning the tables against Stellenbosch and the boys are aware that we awe them a little bit of a hiding.”

The Mamelodi Sundowns Diski Team will face the Stellenbosch FC Reserves on Saturday afternoon at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. Kick-off has been scheduled for 12H00.
