It was goals galore at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium after a convincing 4-2 victory from Mamelodi Sundowns against Sekhukhune United in a six-goal performance on Wednesday night.
The visitors asserted their dominance very early in the game and almost saw a goal from an Iqraam Rayners header but it was caught by the goalkeeper. After 15 minutes of play and no goal on sight, a goal to break the deadlock finally came from Thapelo Morena in the 16th minute. It was Jayden Adams who set him up with a beautiful cross. Unattended, Morena ran into the box to receive the ball and slotted it in.
Aubrey Modiba came close to doubling the advantage two minutes later but his effort was denied by the goalkeeper’s feet. Babina Noko also had an opportunity to score but the ball went wide. Eventually, in the 35th minute, the hosts leveled matters. Jody February had smacked away the shot by Sekhukhune United that came from the right flank but a rebound was quickly found and the ball was sent into the net to make it 1-1.
Three minutes later, another goal was seen at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium and it was Downs’ latest acquisition, Lucas Suarez who directed the ball into the net with his head from a corner kick supplied by Marcelo Allende. The goal was what saw Masandawana head to the interval with the upper hand.
Bafana Ba Style found the back of the net ten minutes into the second-half proceedings through Lucas Ribeiro. Rayners had an opportunity to score as he faced the keeper but his effort was cushioned. Ribeiro then managed to find the rebound and tucked the ball inside the box to make it 3-1.
The rotation of the ball by the Brazilians was exceptional and it saw them convert a fourth goal in the 67th minute. Modiba had delivered the ball to Peter Shalulile who gave it to substitute, Arthur Sales through a backheel pass. Sales then shot a grass cutter to extend Downs’ advantage. Three minutes later, Babina Noko capitalized off a defensive mistake made by the visitors which had them toe-poking their second goal of the night.
In the remaining minutes of the match, it was a titanic tussle as both sides looked to find goals. In the end, Downs had to settle for a 4-2 victory and three points in Polokwane.
How we lined up: February, Suarez, Kekana, Morena, Modiba, Adams, Mokoena ©, Allende, Rayners, Shalulile, Ribeiro.

Hi masandawana, good win yesterday, bu February the goal keeper doesn’t deserve play for sundowns his mistakes. nearly cost us the game
Good win and i’m also on the view that Jody gave away two silly goals,he made preschool mistakes. PLS PLS lest stop this thing of playing balls at the back because when you make a mistake you are bound to fetch the ball in the net unlike in the middle where you have time to recover.Let our opponents use their creativity to score against than hand them goal like is a fashion. I think our player are targets of brutal tackles. Good luck on Saturday.
I am not one to criticise players but Jody February is a liability … 2 costly mistakes … when an opportunity to play comes u must take it with both hands …. but for him … he took it with one hand and cost the team… As for me I think we should just release him … let us have Pieterse as third choice or else bring back Goss to be our number 3 after all Onyango is in the afternoon of his career
