Downs Not Resting on their Laurels Ahead of Sekhukhune Meeting

Mamelodi Sundowns will be back on the touchline when they travel to Polokwane to face Sekhukhune United. It’s a Wednesday night kick-off where Masandawana will look to defeat Babina Noko at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

As Bafana Ba Style head to Polokwane, they are on a run of two victories in the league. Standing between them and a victory as well as a chance to extend their lead in the summit of the table, is a Sekhukhune United side that come from the back of edging Chippa United over the weekend.

The two sides last met in November 2024 at Loftus Versfeld and the Brazilians took advantage of being in their backyard and thrashed them 3-0. Iqraam Rayners – who has been in good form – and Arthur Sales were the goal scorers, including the own goal that helped Downs break the deadlock.

With both sides coming from victories in their previous fixtures, this meeting, which is a return fixture, promises to be an exciting one. The Pretoria-based side will be looking to hit a double against Babina Noko as well as extending the already 17-point difference against their opponent, while the hosts will be looking to upset their visitors. Caoch Miguel Cardoso has expressed that his side is looking confident ahead of the game and they will not go into the match undermining their opponent. He said: “we have been working hard in preparing for this game. We just need to do what we have planned for the game in order to win it. We will go to the game with the utmost respect for Sekhukhune and hope for the best.”

Mamelodi Sundowns will face Sekhukhune United on Wednesday night at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium. Kick-off has been scheduled for 19H30, live on SuperSport TV.
