Downs ready to welcome USM Algers

Mamelodi Sundowns return to CAF Champions League action this weekend as they prepare to host Algerian side USM Algers in their Group C encounter.

Downs sit on top of Group C with seven points from a possible nine ahead of Wydad AC who have five points. Saturday’s opponents USM come into the tie sitting in third place with two points from their three games.

Downs will be looking to do the double over USM after claiming a hard-fought 1-0 win away in Algeria at the end of the year thanks to a solitary Hlompho Kekana goal.

Mosa Lebusa spoke to the media about the importance of winning at home as they look to cement their place at the top of the Group C:

“It’s very important because we want to finish on top of the group. The coach has made it clear to us that we have to finish the group on top.”

“We have to finish this one off this Saturday and hopefully at the end of the group we will be on top.”

Downs take on USM Algers at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday. Kickoff is at 15:00.

When it comes to Caf games ,we are assured of a good result with Sundowns, if they can approach all games with the same attitude as they do with Caf, very few teams would survive a draw in the Psl. You can even hear their targets and it makes them unstoppable, why not do the same in local football? We still wish to see Sundowns become that formidable force that local teams would go into the match having done their home work thoroughly, the fact that we can hardly keep clean sheets is a sign good enough that we are getting to be ordinary, very few individuals show the fighting spirit, others play for themselves. Of course we have the experience and depth to know which game to apply what, let the goals not go down.European football teams with a ball possession like Sundowns score many goals, they are not shy to score a team eight goals in one match, it does not matter whether its a striker who scores, even defenders get into the score sheet. I feel sometime the players let down the couches, how do you explain more missed opportunities , clear setters ,one on one? Some time a serious lack of anticipation, somebody strike at goal , nobody follows up anticipating a rebound. Whoever said a strike at goal is a goal has not told the truth, many a times my guys will be holding their heads in despair instead of chasing to leave the ball in the net. KBY

I feel your passion for Downs. But I’m positive that our defence will be stronger when that south American returns from injury. We are conceding from dead balls. Our defence is always flat footed. Let’s hope the Amigos will come back and win the league for us.

Pitso I love you my coach, the team our president and all kabo yellow. Please tell players no passes in 18 area they waste chances by passing. This is their down fall. Only Keke and Sirino with Meza shoots outside area. Give Meza support, he will be a threat to opponents
