Mamelodi Sundowns have secured a spot in the group stages of the CAF Champions League, following a 4-0 win over Mbabane Swallows on Saturday night at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. The tie against the Eswatini outfit was won 8-0 on aggregate, after a 4-0 win last weekend in the first leg.
Although the hosts were dominating possession from set, there were a few clear-cut chances seen in the opening minutes. Umkhonto KaShaka rang the first threatening shot ten minutes into the match but shot stopper, Denis Onyango came out for a save.
Eventually, Bafana Ba Stye began to create threatening chances, looking to penetrate their opponents’ defence. Their relentlessness paid off in the final minutes of the opening half when they opened the scoring. It was Kobamelo Kodisang who opened the flood gates, scoring his first goal in Brazilian colours. The breakthrough came from Divine Lunga’s superb cross to Kodisang, who then hit a tap-in to get the job done.
Despite the continuous fight to see more goals in the first half, the hosts went to the break one goal up.
Masandawana carried the momentum over to the second stanza because on the hour mark, youngster Malibongwe Khoza – who scored his first senior team goal – added his name in the scoresheet when he netted an equaliser for his side through a towering header. It was a Lorch set piece that Khoza found to help his side in front of goal.
Three minutes later Lorch tucked in a beautiful goal which he connected well with from Kodisang’s cross. Four minutes later, Sphelele Mkhulise made it four for with a stunner.
Despite the changes made to introduce players who would see out the rest of the win, an 8-0 aggregate was enough to see Coach Manqoba’s side advance to the group stages of the competition.
This is how we lined up: Onyango, Khoza, De Reuck, Aubaas, Lunga, Mkhulise, Mdunyelwa, Saavedra, Lorch, Kodisang, Shalulile.
Subs: Pieterse, Modiba, Letlhaku, Matthews, Zwane, Mabena, Maseko, Johannes, Coetzee.
I would like to commend our coach Manqoba for introducing few youngsters from our development,Downs was like that even during the days of Screamer where we unleashed Hluphi,Mambush,Fire Themba Mnguni etc.
We can’t keep on buying from other teams that developed their own like S.United and Stellies.
Downs have even under 12’s but we ignored all that, they’re many Downs development players that are playing all over the teams even on Motsepe Foundation league players like Maloisiane of Stellies that was our player.
Look at Barca it’s amazing the way those kids have matured in three years to come they’ll be unstoppable mark my words.
On Shalulile pls My Outie don’t despair goals will come maybe this coming Saturday they can come who knows, lastly to Maseko and Mashego pls pull up your socks maybe on January transfer window you might follow Mbule really the above players are not giving us anything especially Maseko the guy is so poor in everything and we’re very happy when we signed him but what a disappointment,Kby forever.
