Mamelodi Sundowns secured passage to the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals after beating Vaal University of Technology on Sunday afternoon.
Mosimane rang the changes for the encounter, with only Lebohang Maboe and Nicholus Lukhubeni remaining from the team that started against Bloemfontein Celtic in midweek PSL action.
The Brazilians began to turn on the heat in the closing minutes of the half but could not break down the spirited VUT defence. The teams headed into the half goalless.
Downs began the half the way they finished the first, and after a couple of squandered chances Wayne Arendse finally got the breakthrough with a powerful header from five-yards out.
VUT had a chance to level matters five minutes later after they were awarded a penalty for a foul by Lukhubeni in the box. Reitumetse Hlongwane stepped up and skied his effort over the crossbar.
With the clock winding down and the visitors committing men forward, Lebo Maboe found himself in some space, his deflected cross taped in by an alert Phakamani Mahlambi.
Mosimane’s men saw out the game with relative ease to advance to the last eight of the Nedbank Cup.
