Downs Trio Included in U20 National Team Roster

The South African U20 men’s national team head coach, Raymond Mdaka, has announced his 21-man squad that is set to represent South Africa at the upcoming U20 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Amongst the 21 players who have been called up, are three Mamelodi Sundownsyoungsters, Asekho Tiwani, Kutlwano Letlhaku, and Gomolemo Kekana. Diski defender, Thato Sibiya has been named as one of the players on standby. The final squad, including players on standby, will be reporting for camp on the 20th of April 2025 for the final touch-ups before heading to Egypt where the tournament will take place.

The international football tournament will take place from the 27th of April 2025 to the 18th of May 2025. They have been placed in Group C and pitted against hosts Egypt, Morocco and Nigeria. Amajita’s first game will be on the 30th of April 2025 against the Atlas Clubs of Morocco. They will then play the hosts on the 3rd of May 2025 and conclude the group stages by facing Nigeria on the 6th of May 2025.

Meanwhile, at the ongoing U17 AFCON in Morocco, the South African U17 men’s national team called up eight Mamelodi Sundowns Academy players. Amajimboshave advanced to the quarterfinals after they finished 2nd in the group stages. To advance to the semifinals, they will face Morocco on Thursday night at 21H00. Amajimbos have also qualified for the FIFA U17 World Cup to be held in Qatar from the 3rd to the 27th of November 2025.
