As Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies gear up for their third game of the season against the newly promoted University of Cape Town (UCT), the team’s confidence is high after two impressive victories.
In their last two games, a 2-0 win over JVW FC and a 1-0 triumph against UWC, they have shown their strength, determination, and tactical sharpness. Saturday’s match presents an opportunity for the Brazilians to maintain their perfect start to the new season.
Midfielder Khutso Pila shared her thoughts on the team’s early success, emphasizing the importance of maintaining momentum:
“We are taking each game as it comes. The wins against both teams showed us where we are as a team and where we are heading, so we need to keep the momentum going to be able to reach our end goal.”
Meanwhile, Andisiwe Mgcoyi echoed her teammate’s sentiment and highlighted the team’s readiness for the challenge posed by UCT:
“I can say it is a great start to the season for us as a team with all the changes that have happened, but it goes to show that the team is gelling well together and fighting for each other on the field. We can only grow from strength to strength. We are always taking each game as it comes; it is going to be a long season and we are ready for the battles ahead.”
Both players acknowledge the importance of focusing on their strengths despite the new dynamics of facing a newly promoted side like UCT.
Andisiwe elaborated, “It will be a tricky match for us facing a newly promoted team, but we always do our analysis on teams and play the way we know how to. We stick to our philosophy because we cannot lose our identity based on how the opponent plays. No game is easy, but we will go out there and try to get the three points.”
The match between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and the University of Cape Town is set to take place at Kopano Astroturf Stadium on Saturday, April 12, at 15H00.
