Downs Win Big In Seychelles

Tiyani Mabunda scored twice in a 5-0 victory against Cote d’Or Football Club to give Mamelodi Sundowns an advantage ahead of the second leg of their CAF Champions League first round tie back in South Africa later this month.

It means the Brazilians firmly have one foot in the group stages of the continental tournament and need only to maintain their lead to be guaranteed a spot.

Mabunda opened the scoring at the Stade Linité in Seychelles after just five minutes with a header and would later complete his brace in the 74th minute.

There were three other goal scorers in the match for Sundowns in Lyle Lakay, Sphelele Mkhulise and Wayne Arendse.

Coach Pitso Mosimane’s men dominated play throughout and had initially gone into the half time break leading by a solitary goal that was scored by Mabunda.

They stepped it up a gear in the second stanza and registered four more goals on the scoresheet to effectively put the game to bed.

Cote d’Or will travel to Tshwane for the second leg later this month and unless they can overturn the heavy scoreline, Downs will qualify for the Champions League group stages as they aim to go one better than the previous edition.

The Brazilians were semifinalists during the 2018-19 campaign of Africa’s premier club tournament.

How Downs line-up:

Reyaad Pieterse, Motjeka Madisha, Tebogo Langerman, Wayne Arendse, Soumahoro Bangaly, Lyle Lakay, Tiyani Mabunda, Andile Jali, Oupa Manyisa, Sphelele Mkhulise, Sibusiso Vilakazi

Subs: Kennedy Mweene, Mosa Lebusa, Gaston Sirino, Anele Ngcongca, Themba Zwane, Lebohang Maboe

We need to give credit when its due not only blaming or discouraging the team, let me congratulate the Technical team for the great job they do recently especially our own Mosimane for qualifying us to the Group stages again of Champs League and giving others a chance to play to me that’s what will give our team a healthy competition no player’s sulking.

  2. Let me congratulate the Fitness team, the technical team, the Medical team, The foot soldiers and the mighty yellow nation for the well deserved and emphatic win in Seychelles. i think this season we have a system that we were practicing from last season hence we started better on both the League, the Top 8 and Champions league. The coach is able to change the team a bit which is why last season we were using one team. Lastly i would like to humbly request our promotion department to request PUMA to make children shirts from 2 years old like ADIDAS, Zebras, The Rats, Man United etc, My grand daughter wants to wear my shirt and it is too big for her, I tried to call Puma Cape town, Visited Mall of Africa, Wood mead without success. PLEASE ASSIST, AND THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.

Congratulations to Masandawana! ! I think we all expected nothing less than such a result, when the team meets the expectations of the supporters to that margin then they have done exceptionally well. Thank you technical team, thank you foot soldiers, thank you wonderful supporters for your belief in the whole team, such a result away gives us a right to be proud that things were done right.

We are one foot in the group stages and I want our boys to keep thei feet firm on the ground we want to score another five at our slaughter House the Lucas Moripe Stadium ko Pheli .
Now the focus shifts immedaetely to our game gainst our noisy neighbors Supersport for the second leg of the MTN 8 SEMI FINAL…

I’m very happy that Pitso has rested majority of the first team players for the second leg and if Downs still loose to Supersport I will not be sad, this shows improvement in our planning. This can only make us better and move one or more gears up. It will give 90% or more players a fair chance to play and be part of the team. It doesn’t mean we will win them all but it will make us win one more cup on top of what we expect to win- the league &/or CAF. It will also make us a tough team to beat and evetually cut the loses fewer & fewer. I’m happy if we win two or three cups a season including CAF.

We are only one game away from the MTN Final, we must work hard to cross this one bridge called Supersport, they play good effective football but we are always playing the best. We just have to take our opportunity and fight like soldiers who are determined for victory. Whoever is fielded to fight for the Yellow Nation must do it vividly knowing that match has no return fixture any longer, it must be done to completion , that fire ahead, that bite just needs someone to raise a hand, and begin to score for Sundowns. Yes at Sundowns anyone can score which is good for the team but the best is when you know of a certain player whom the opponents can always think of not to be allowed space or given a small chance, such a player is very very important because three players tend to focus on such leaving two to play and score, and such players we have but do not want to take that responsibility. We cant wait for tomorrow, its high time we win this Mtn cup, why not us this time? We need it most, other big clubs take all cups if possible, we can once again focus well because there is good space between our participation internationally and domestically , we have professionals who can adjust and switch on to different competitions . All the Best !!KBY
