Downs, Wits share the spoils

Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits settled for a point each after playing to a 1-1 draw in their Absa Premiership match on Tuesday evening.

Mosimane made only one change to the team that lifted the Telkom Knockout cup over the weekend, with Lyle Lakay the only inclusion for the suspended Tebogo Langerman.

The Clever Boys started the game with a point to prove and Thulani Hlatshwayo squandered a chance early on.

Andile Jali continued to impress in the midfield dispossessing Thabang Monare to play a cross to the back-post for Themba Zwane, whose scuffed shot fell to Gaston Sirino who made no mistake firing the Brazilians into the lead.

Wits continued to press forward as Gift Motupa levelled matters with a minute to go, a powerful diving header from inside the box.

Thapelo Morena looked to restore the lead minutes after the restart, but Wits shot-stopper Ricardo Goss parried his effort wide to keep the Clever Boys in the game.

Mosimane rang the changes with ten minutes to full-time, as Keletso Makgalwa replaced Themba Zwane, as he looked for a late winner.

Downs continued to create chances in the final third but could not find the finishing touches as the game drew to a close with both sides sharing the spoils.

The Brazilians moving up to second spot in the Absa PSL log while Bidvest Wits find themselves in fourth position.

Currently Downs goalkeepers and the central defensive pairing is poor. Hlompho fades during the game and can no longer give us consistance perfomance I think he needs to be managed. I wish the coach promote goalkeeper from our MDC team and find another young goalkeeper, right&left back defenders not midfielders converted to wing backs. When there comes a time when Downs need to defend well and time after time they fail and I’m sure I’m not the only one who noticed this. I wish the Pitso could have an option where he uses proper defenders and when he uses converted defenders. Downs defensive game is very poor and will undo the good work done by attacking game, I suppose defending and attacking is a team effort but somewhere something is wrong. Now it’s more than three games we threw away where we scored first but failed to managed the game and we don’t have a problem of creating opportunities.

The Nash sometimes coaches and technical staff have a way of seeing things differently u can ask as 2 why was Ngobeni offloaded, whereas the only better goalkeeper who is way the best to him was Onyango. Not even one game Mweene can keep a clean sheet. As 4 Riyaard Peterse u can’t even remember which season was playing to b warranted a signing, the boy was playing second fiddle to Ronwen Williams.A central defender like Mkhwanazi is needed or else a recovery of Nascimento is crucial 4 the communication purposes as it is clear that it’s non existent between Madisha&Lebusa.Everytime now a central striker is scoring against us,and Moseamedi was given the freedom of Moses Mabhida and he mesmerized us as if we didn’t have a game plan. Its clear now that Kekana&Jali are playing with a purpose&understanding is there as they do exchanges going forward and at the same time tracking back 2 defend. We also need the comeback of Nyiko Mobbie from loan at Stellenbosch. And again we need a central aggressive defensive midfielder in the mould of that guy from Highlands Park I believe its Mothiba if not mistaken. But regarding winning the league this year it’s not compulsory,to win it as there are other 15 teams 2 compete with. If we won the Telkom cup the pressure now is on Chiefs&Pirates to come with a silverware this year.I so wish we can win the Champions league this season.By January it will be very good if the technical team can reinforce here&there.
