Fantastic Five: Banyana Ba Style makes it rain in the Northern Cape

Five different scorers graced the scoresheet on Saturday as Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies defeated Richmond United 5-0 at De Aar Merino Park Stadium in their seventh match of the Hollywoodbets Super League this season.

Asanda Hadebe, Kholosa Biyana, Lebohang Ramalepe, Nthabiseng Majiya and Melinda Kgadiete all found the back of the net in a dominant attacking display in the Northern Cape.

After scoring seven times against Lindelani Ladies in their previous match, the Brazilians were eager to continue their impressive form. Newly signed Asanda Hadebe, making her second consecutive start, opened the scoring with her first goal for the Tshwane giants in the 32nd minute.

Three minutes later, Biyana found the back of the net before Ramalepe made it 3-0, as the Chloorkop-based side went into the break with a comfortable lead. After the restart, Majiya grabbed the team’s fourth before Kgadiete added gloss to the scoreline as Sundowns Ladies secured their sixth win of the season.

Hadebe expressed her joy at scoring her first goal for the club, stating, “I feel happy to be among the scorers and to help the team secure a clean sheet. We played very well as a team and there were moments when we could have scored even more. Nonetheless, we delivered a strong performance as a team, which will boost our confidence.”

Sedilame Bosija, starting her fifth consecutive game in goal, shared her delight in the team’s fourth clean sheet of the season.

“We did our job on both ends of the pitch and I am excited about preventing the opponents from scoring. We need to maintain this momentum and continue working hard to achieve our goals for the season. Each player contributed to this victory and it shows the strength and depth of our squad,” said Sedilame.

The victory means Sundowns Ladies have now secured 18 points from their first seven games. The Brazilians boast the best attack with 28 goals scored and the best defense, having conceded just five times.

Majiya’s strike means she is now tied with Boitumelo Rabale and Miche Minnies on five goals in the Sundowns Ladies’ scoring chart. Salome Kekana has scored three times, while Chuene Morifi has scored twice. Andisiwe Mgcoyi, Regina Mogolola, Cimone Sauls, Kholosa Biyana, Asanda Hadebe, Lebohang Ramalepe and Melinda Kgadiete have all scored once each.

Looking ahead, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will face Thunderbirds Ladies on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 15h00.
