Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies took another giant step towards retaining their Hollywoodbets Super League title with a dominant 4-0 victory against Vasco da Gama Ladies in Sunday’s clash at the UWC Stadium in Cape Town.
Goals from Oratile Mokwena, Miche Minnies, Boitumelo Rabale and Rhoda Mulaudzi handed The Brazilians a comprehensive win over the newly promoted side.
Coach Jerry ‘Kappa’ Tshabalala started with Sedilame Bosija in goal with Zanele Nhlapho, Regina Mogolola, Khutso Pila, and Lehlogonolo Mashigo in defense. Chuene Morifi, Oratile Mokwena, and Lelona Daweti began in midfield while Boitumelo Rabale, Nonhlanhla Mthandi, and Miche Minnies started upfront.
Kappa’s troops dominated the early period and broke the resistance of the opponents midway through the first half thanks to Oratile Mokwena’s goal, her first strike of the season.
Miche Minnies and Boitumelo Rabale also registered their name on the scoresheet as Banyana Ba Style ended the first half with a 3-0 advantage.
After the break, Rhoda Mulaudzi, Thembelihle Masibi, and Karabo Makhurubetshi were introduced in place of Lehlogonolo Mashigo, Miche Minnies, and Boitumelo Rabale.
A late strike from substitute Rhoda Mulaudzi ensured that Sundowns Ladies registered a 4-0 win, their second victory over their opponents in 4 days.
Oratile Mokwena who clinched the ‘Woman of Match’ award spoke about the team’s tactical approach to the game, “We expected them to park the bus as they did a few days ago, but they came at us, and we were tactically astute to handle the element of surprise. Our movement both on and off the ball was impressive and we had the opportunity to express ourselves across the pitch. Overall, we are happy to seal maximum points.”
Lelona Daweti was also pleased with the performance of the team, “Our aim was to dominate the game and we did that right from the blast of the whistle. We made several attacking runs to counteract their defensive lines and the result was fully deserved. Our performance today showed how much we learned from the previous fixture in midweek.
Miche Minnies was full of praise for the team despite grabbing a goal against her former team, “I am so happy to get on the score sheet because we needed to clinch maximum points. Getting one against my former side makes me happy but claiming all three points means a lot to me. We have really enjoyed our stay in Cape Town, and we are looking forward to the next game.”
Sundowns Ladies remain top of the Hollywoodbets Super League standings with 61 points with 20 wins in 23 games. The Brazilians have scored a massive 92 goals and have conceded just 11 times. The Brazilians also possess a mammoth goal difference of +81.
