Go make us proud in Morocco: Chairman Tlhopie Motsepe backs Sundowns Ladies

Mamelodi Sundowns Club Chairman, Tlhopie Motsepe has backed the Ladies team to play like champions as they leave for the second edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League to be staged in Morocco from 30 October 2022 to 13 November 2022.

The Brazilians are pitted in Group B alongside Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens, Egypt’s Wadi Degla, and Congo’s TP Mazembe. Group A contains Morocco’s AS FAR, Tanzania’s Simba Queens, Zambia’s Green Buffaloes, and Liberia’s Determine Girls FC.

The Club’s Chairman addressed the team before they departed for the continent’s premier women’s tournament.

“You are going to Morocco to defend your title as ‘Champions of Africa’, so you must be prepared to give your best to live up to that tag. Every team will be gunning for the prestigious trophy and the accolades that come with being a champion. Therefore, you have to fight together to retain this title which you worked very hard for last year. Remember when you left for Egypt last year, you represented the entire nation and even the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region with so much class. Nothing has changed and the entire country will be cheering you to succeed again as you go,” the Chairman stated.

In his concluding remarks, the Club’s Chairman said, “On behalf of the President of the Club, the Board, staff members, First Team, and the Yellow Nation family at large, we are firmly behind you, and we are so proud of your achievements across all fronts. We understand that you will be facing stiffer competition for the continental crown this year; nevertheless, we encourage you to look out for each other and fight together as a family. Once again, we believe so much in your abilities and we urge you to go out there and make us proud.”

Last week, the CAF’s Communication Department announced that the winners of the continent’s premier women’s tournament will take home a cash prize of $400,000, while the runners-up would take $250,000.

Sundowns Ladies will begin the defense of their continental title on the 31st of October 2022 with a massive clash against Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens.
