Grant Kekana , who has returned with a bang from an injury that he picked up before the season started opened the flood gates for Mamelodi Sundowns when he scored the first goal of the match just a single minute after the game had started. The Brazilians ended the 1st Leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round against La Passe with a 7-0 win on Sunday at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria and Grant was happy with the overall performance of the team.
The Mamelodi Sundowns Media Team caught up with the reliable defender to talk about his goal for the Brazilians and how he coped with his injury:
“Being back on the field after injury has been a great relief because the injury was frustrating. Overall, I’m happy to be contributing to the team’s success.”
Returning from an injury and displaying admirable performance is not easy, but Kekana has shown determination upon his return. Talking about his recovery journey, Kekana described that he had to work hard to get back into the team: “I have come a long way with my injury. The process and journey to recovery has been a strenuous one. I had to put in extra work and physiotherapy sessions to get back to full fitness”.
Kekana added that the coaches and the physical trainers kept reminding him not to rush things he wouldn’t want to be back on the sidelines again, “I was doing a lot of extra work on the sides so I could speed up the recovery process. I’m feeling confident again. I’m grateful to the medical team, my family and everyone in the team for ensuring that I get back on the pitch.”
“I just wanted to see myself playing again, that’s my happy place. The feeling of just being on the pitch is amazing. It’s unfortunate that I got injured on the last game of pre-season but that’s behind me”, concluded Kekana as he communicated his anticipation seeing that he is back to playing. Bafana Ba Style will be hosting their opposition from the Seychelles (La Passe FC) this Friday (14 October 2022) for the 2nd Leg of the CAF Champion League.
