Ahead of tonight’s catch up Absa Premiership fixture at home against Highlands Park at the Lucas Moripe Stadium, the coach has been speaking about how important it is to close the gap on the current log leaders.
Sundowns have come off a great win in the Telkom Knockout, putting five goals past AmaZulu at the same venue on Sunday. The coach wants to build momentum.
“If you don’t win that game, the gap might increase. So for us it is a big game and a very hard one, you know Highlands. They are tough and that game will get you injuries, yellow cards or red cards. They were tough to play against last season and they have improved under coach Owen da Gama,” said Mosimane.
The coach said he would have liked to rest a few players during the past weekend’s match, but minor knocks to some altered his plan.
“Hlompho Kekana had a tight hamstring and I had to make sure I keep him. But Andile Jali was a forced substitute, I would have liked for him to finish the game because it was flowing well for him. The person I wanted to substitute was Gaston Sirino or Themba Zwane because we have a hard game coming against Highlands and it is a game in hand. But that didn’t happen,” said Mosimane.
A win for Sundowns would push us to second place on the log table, with one game still to be played to be up to date with the round of league fixtures.
Touche. Great arguments. Keep up the amazing work.
You made some decent points there. I did a search on the subject and found most guys will consent with your website.
As a team supporter can someone perhaps educate me on one thing. “FREE KICKS”.
We r known as best in the league and Africa, however we r so poor at taking FREE KICKS.
If I remember well the last time we had a FREE KICK specialist was Teko.
I have watched so many matches where we’re getting these opportunities, but each one goes begging..
Do they ever practice FREE KICKS.
Please educate me fellow members..
You have just read my mind member. And hopefully members and the coach don’t get us wrong here. We are so appauling when it comes to set pieces, and at times i also shared the same sentiment as you that these are never practiced @ sundowns as we probably are the worst team in the PSL in terms of making use of the set pieces. During the time of Teko Modise, Alje Schut and later Nascimento the team benefited from some goals in instances where it was tough to even get a goal.
Now we are so predictable to a point that only our goals come during open play and the odd penalty which we never get. I hope the team can take this seriously and get a set piece specialist ….Our captain and Sirino have not converted even one set piece don’t know in how many months, perhaps this should be assigned to someone else and let us be team players. The set pieces are not necessarily have to be taken by the captain. i think he got his chance and evidence suggest otherwise.
Pitso can be such a bore sometimes,he has returned to this false strike nonsense again?Uyonqena ngamanye amaxesha ukucinga my coach u have been seeing that this thing is always giving us one nil wins&less draws.Haven’t you seen( Pitso )that Maboe doesn’t want to be on the starting line-up?How much game time must you see that the boy belong elsewhere not at Sundowns?Affonso scored on Sunday give him the starting line-up.
Thank you boys. Now the big one
Member this to me was a BIG one. Remember last season we droped 2 points against this team at home. I will take any result on Sunday. The Technical team and boys are really doing well.
Affonso Affonso Affonso that’s what I can only say, ngathi kuzobamnandi watch the space.
Good game indeed, i like the resilience of the team. Highlands park were all over us in the first 15 minutes of the game but as the game progressed one could see the experience of champions coming through. Well done to the boys, our coach and his technical team for the job well done.
Just a few points to note going foward which i believe we could fix.
1. Sirino needs to put more intensity on his game and always be disciplined – he lost possession in dangerous areas today which nearly cost us – if we were playing a wiser team we could have been punished for those mistakes. Secondly, we he looses the ball he must just chase, we cannot have a situation where he looses a ball and looks at ref.
2. Themba Zwane is our main guy – he is the shining star of our team but he just needs to work on his finishing – perhaps keletso can advice him as he gets into those positions but he seems not get that ball into the net.
3. LANGERMAN – Eeiiiiiiish basics of trapping a ball seems to have gone away. truth be told- he is off form and the sooner the coach realises that the better. he seems to be all out of sort, not comfortable on the ball. The boy needs to pull up his socks and he knows perhaps that he is not having a great season thus far. Just that when someone believes in you at times, they seldom don’t see the weakness that you have, and they always hope for the better. So coach – check the videos of the games we played thus far and you’ll realises what we talking about.
Congratulations to affonso for his debut goal.
Centre backs were solid today. I like it.
Maboe is trying too hard – he must just relax we know how good he is.
Kae kapa Kae Sundowns ke a le yona.
Shando
Sefikile isikhathi sa maqiniso, 3 points and the noise volume will be normal. The Zebras we are coming ONS IS KOM. their coach knows it that there is no way they can stop us.just like in formula1, when Sebastien Vettel is leading comfortably and suddenly he sees the silver arrows of Mercedes growing on his mirror then he knows there is nothing he can do. so on Sunday we will not leave it too late. We are Mzansi champions and will lead by example, we will make Zebras feel the wrath of the Champions. we will remove that umbrella that is starting to irritate us with this noise.
Yah I knew this game was going to be tough but we managed it very well. Congratulations to the technical staff and the boys as for the Sundays game let’s send those monkeys back to the zoo where they belong. KBY I remain
Congratulations to the team, technical and the ever loving supporters. Great comments and analysis above from the soccer lovers. It was a hard fought win, a typical Championship mentality and display of football. Champions must know how to win a match, turning a draw into a victory. Champions know how to lead and protect their lead by attacking more or keeping the ball to starve the opponents, Champions must always be able to turn a loss into a draw . It is all achieved through hard work.
l watched the chances we missed, we just have to be clinical, those one on one encounters must be converted, it needs a bit of a skill and be quicker, l also watched similar incidences on UEFA Championship, same set up for Thapelo Morena and Mshishi , Killian Mbappe and Sadio Mane converted .My favorite players can learn to use such opportunities, there are god for their names and for the team, there are special players to us and they must be composed , quick, calculative and ruthless before the goals. Thank God for the Affonso classical finish, otherwise we will be talking in a different tone for those missed golden opportunities. At the end we are happy because eventually our nerves were cooled down at the end. If we can now play beyond 90 minutes to get a late winner it shows growth and determination , which is the right mentality.
Now we can talk about the Chiefs game, our focus could not be diverted. Come Sunday kuzoba late! l also just want to see something. This one does not need any motivation, it is a motivation on its own.KBY
