Mamelodi Sundowns will take on Orlando Pirates at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday afternoon without Aubrey Ngoma who pulled his groin at training. Ngoma featured in the Brazilians’ 3-1 win over Free State Stars three days before their clash with the Buccaneers.
Anthony Laffor (knee) and Cuthbert Malajila (knee) will also miss the much-anticipated tie with Pirates. But coach Pitso Mosimane has plenty of attacking fire power at his disposal to avenge the 3-1 loss Bafana BaStyle suffered in this corresponding fixture last season. That was the last time Sundowns lost a match in the Absa Premiership.
Since that defeat, the Tshwane giants lifted the league for a record eighth time in the PSL-era and have gone 22 games unbeaten. Phakamani Mahlambi is among the players Mosimane can call upon in the match that kicks off at 15h30.
“We need to win,” Mahlambi said. “We know that Pirates is a good side. We need the points to get on top of the log since we are going to have back to back matches because of the Caf Champions League”
“We need to consider this as a big game. We need to win to go on top and after that we can see what will happen. Pirates is a good team, offensively they are very dangerous. We are expecting a tough game because they have already found their rhythm. We just need to match them because we started on a low note even though we haven’t lost any game. For us to match them, we have to mentally strong.”
